Statement of the Press Secretariat of the Presidium of the FAAE about the campaign of the upcoming elections on April 2 in Armenia

The Press Secretariat of the Presidium of the FAAE issued a statement which particularly says.

“The Press Secretariat of FAAE introduces information about the campaign of the upcoming elections in Armenia on April 2 to the international agencies.

The ruling regime, led by Serzh Sargsyan, started terror against its competitors.

The “ORO” alliance – the radical opposition, leaded by Seyran Ohanyan – ex Minister of Defense, Raffi Hovhannisyan and Vardan Oskanyan – two ex Ministers of Foreign Affairs, and the most important ally – Samvel Babayan – former Chief of Defense Forces of RNK, is illegally prosecuted.

On March 22, 2017 Samvel Babayan, former Chief of Defense Forces of RNK, was arrested without any reason, which raised indignity in the country.

Samvel Babayan is one of the heroes of the war in Artsakh and a national pride. The criminal case against him that has political goals cannot be criticized.

The situation in Armenia became even more aggravate after these illegal steps as it was preceded by the early death of the famous representative of opposition, one of the nation’s beloved persons; in his death people blame only authorities. We are talking about Artur Sargsyan’s death – a public figure, an activist, a symbol of humanism, whose death, was perceived as murder, as the authorities were indifferent to his health during a long hunger strike.

If the campaign continues in such a global terror, this dictatorial regime in Armenia will be prolonged, during which the EU- Armenia relations are frozen and Armenia is completely out of the cooperation with any project of the EU.
Armenia needs to be returned to normal relations with the civilized world and needs to help the opposition, which is democratic and struggles against state terrorism in the country.
